Housing Services

The Disabled Persons Housing Service (Borders) is a new organisation, planning to offer advise and information to disabled people either living in or wanting to live in the Borders area, and who have particular housing needs or housing problems.

It will give disabled people the chance to consider housing options right for them at their own pace and which will suit them. Funding for this new service will be sought from a variety of sources – both local statutory organisations and charitable trusts will be approached to support the Disabled Persons Housing Service (Borders).

   The services offered initially include:

  • The Disabled Persons Housing Register: This will be a register of disabled people seeking housing and using this to better match properties with the profile of needs and preferences unique to each disabled person.
  • Housing Options Register: computer based information systems on all available and planned barrier-free and wheelchair accessible housing in the Borders across all housing sectors.
  • Housing Options Enquiry Reports: providing tailored reports quickly and on request. These match housing needs with housing availability from providers/landlords.
Future Developments include:
  • Personal Housing Plan: service for disabled people when funding allows. This involves an assessment of housing needs and production of a range of options for achieving these goals.
