Linking Education and Disability

Borders College believes there should be no barriers to education. For example: Open Learning is an ideal way to study for anyone who has difficulties in attending College regularly, perhaps through employment commitments, shift working, a young family, travelling distances, disability, or family responsibilities. None of these need prevent anyone from gaining qualifications.

Borders College

Workwise is a partnership between Borders College and Scottish Borders Council Lifelong Care Social Work.

Objective 3 European Social Funding has been secured to support the Workwise programme over the next 3 years.

Workwise supports people with a learning disability and/or a physical disability to get into real work. Workwise can help by:

  • supporting people to find jobs
  • supporting the person in their chosen workplace
  • supporting the employer
  • support with practical things like organising transport and equipment
Workwise can also help people:
  • learn new skills
  • prepare for work
  • get work experience
  • gain recognised qualifications
  • decide what kind of work they would like to do
